Guatemala (without bicycles!)

We left El Salvador with a pannier each and hopped on a bus to Antigua, Guatemala. We were very excited about getting to spend some time off the bikes – hiking, running, and really getting to explore some places.

We had an amazing time, that I think is almost better explained through a sort of ‘photo diary’! Okay, you’ve got me, I’m a bit too lazy to write 😉

Antigua

First stop was the gorgeous colonial city of Antigua. We loved this place and it is well worth a visit.

Our lovely friends Richard and Suzanne (who we met in El Salvador and met up with in Antigua) took us on a day trip to a local indigenous village (Santa Maria de Jesus) and to amazing lunch at a local organic farm.

At the village we saw a very powerful and moving play about domestic violence.

Lake Atitlan

We also visited the stunning Lake Atitlan where we stayed at a gorgeous bed and breakfast and explored the local villages around the lake.

Climbing Volcanoes

We hiked up (and around…) three different volcanoes on our trip to Guatemala – Volcan San Pedro near Lake Atitlan and Volcan Acatenango and Volcan Pacaya near Antigua.

Celebrations

And finally….

It was our 1 year anniversary while we were away. I can’t think of a more amazing place to celebrate:
